01. What is MelvinEnglish and who is it for?
MelvinEnglish is software for teaching and learning English as a second language on the Interactive whiteboard or on individual PCs. MelvinEnglish was designed as a tool for teachers to use in the whole class context. Subsequently a student version of MelvinEnglish was also developed allowing the MelvinEnglish games to be used by small groups or individual students as a revision or reinforcement aid.

02. What are the minimum system requirements for using MelvinEnglish?
MelvinEnglish has the following requirements:
Windows PC (Windows 2000, XP or Vista)
256Mb RAM (512+ recommended)
340Mb free disk space to install
Sound card and speakers

03. Is MelvinEnglish compatible with my school network?
MelvinEnglish is network compatible and comes with a Network configuration utility. This utility allows an administrator to change which client computers access MelvinEnglish for teachers or MelvinEnglish for students, to change the path to user edited files, etc. The advantage of installing MelvinEnglish on a network is that all users can share a common set of user edited resources such as additional label files, custom topics, etc. The only disadvantage to running MelvinEnglish over a network is that the program is slower to start than if it is installed on each.

04. Can I use MelvinEnglish with any brand of Interactive whiteboard?
Yes, MelvinEnglish can be used with any brand of Interactive whiteboard.

05. Can I use MelvinEnglish without an Interactive whiteboard?
If you don't have an interactive whiteboard, you can still use MelvinEnglish, even in a whole class situation so long as you have a data projector - simply get your pupils to interact with the program via the mouse and keyboard rather than touching the whiteboard - you could consider investing in some cordless mice that could be placed at the front of the class allowing you to remain adjacent to the projected image of the program.

06. Can I use MelvinEnglish on a Mac?
Sorry, MelvinEnglish is only available for Microsoft PC.

07. Can I customize MelvinEnglish?
Yes, you can create custom topics in MelvinEnglish.
You can also create any number of custom labels for any topic.

08. Is there a preparation utility for MelvinEnglish?
We do not offer a preparation utility for MelvinEnglish.

09. Can my students use MelvinEnglish too?
Yes, MelvinEnglish is available in a student version.

10. Can I use MelvinEnglish's pictures in my own materials?
No, the pictures in MelvinEnglish are embedded in the software and are not licenced for use outside the application. If you wish to use MelvinEnglish pictures in your own materials please consider purchasing our Clipart for MFL product which has all the same pictures as in MelvinEnglish for your own use.

11. Where can I get support and training for MelvinEnglish?
Contact ic language and we can talk about training. We would not generally consider a training session for individual schools, but for a cluster or a group of schools that would be possible.
