01. What is Melvin and who is it for?
Melvin is software for teaching and learning European Modern Foreign Languages on the Interactive whiteboard or on individual PCs.Melvin was designed as a tool for teachers to use in the whole class context. Subsequently a student version of Melvin was also developed allowing the Melvin games to be used by small groups or individual students as a revision or reinforcement aid.
02. What are the minimum system requirements for using Melvin?
Melvin has the following requirements:
Windows PC (Windows 2000, XP or Vista)
256Mb RAM (512+ recommended)
340Mb free disk space to install
Sound card and speakers
03. Is Melvin compatible with my school network?
Melvin is network compatible and comes with a Network configuration utility. This utility allows an administrator to change which client computers access Melvin for teachers or Melvin for students, to change the path to user edited files, etc. The advantage of installing Melvin on a network is that all users can share a common set of user edited resources such as additional label files, custom topics, etc. The only disadvantage to running Melvin over a network is that the program is slower to start than if it is installed on each.

04. Can I use Melvin with any brand of Interactive whiteboard?
Yes, Melvin can be used with any brand of Interactive whiteboard.
05. Can I use Melvin without an Interactive whiteboard?
If you don't have an interactive whiteboard, you can still use Melvin, even in a whole class situation so long as you have a data projector - simply get your pupils to interact with the program via the mouse and keyboard rather than touching the whiteboard - you could consider investing in some cordless mice that could be placed at the front of the class allowing you to remain adjacent to the projected image of the program.
06. Can I use Melvin on a Mac?
Sorry, Melvin is only available for Microsoft PC.

07. Can I customize Melvin?
Yes, you can create custom topics in Melvin.
You can also create custom labels for any topic in any language.
08. Is there a preparation utility for Melvin?
We do not offer a preparation utility for Melvin.
09. Can my students use Melvin too?
Yes, Melvin is available in a student version.

10. Can I use Melvin's pictures in my own materials?
No, the pictures in Melvin are embedded in the software and are not licenced for use outside the application.
If you wish to use Melvin pictures in your own materials please consider purchasing our Clipart for MFL product which has all the same pictures as in Melvin for your own use.
11. Where can I get support and training for Melvin?
Contact ic language and we can talk about training. We would not generally consider a training session for individual schools, but for a cluster or a group of schools that would be possible.
